Now is the time to prepare for a happy, safe summer.

Let’s start with water safety. Even if you don’t think you’ll be around water, now is the time to make sure your child is confident and knows what to do just in case. Swim lessons are a great way to prepare for the season. Your child will gain new confidence as they learn to swim, float, or build on skills they already have. Most communities provide a variety of opportunities for swim lessons.

Make sure your child knows to drink plenty of water if they get hot playing outside.

Get proper clothes for the season. Sun hats, good walking shoes, UV shirts, and rain gear. It’s wonderful to play in a warm summer rain shower.

Know your area’s outdoor hazards and have a plan ahead of time. Have a small first aid kit available. Do you and your child know what poison ivy looks like? Do you have a tick key handy in case of ticks?

This is not a list of things to worry about! It’s just a reminder to plan ahead so you and your child can have a wonderful summer and enjoy being outdoors.
