I love a good story, and I also love a story about making a difference in your community.
Fourth grader, Amy Anne Ollinger, can’t find From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (her favorite book) in the school library. The classic book has been banned due to a parent complaint. Amy Anne and friends create their own banned book library in a locker and make a point to the PTA by coming up with reasons to ban any book from the school library. To be clear Amy Anne does get into trouble for her resistance to authority.
The book includes various viewpoints, like well-meaning parents. But who gets to decide what books are allowed to be read? Ban This Book is clearly opposed to censorship and supportive of student and community action.
FYI - This book has of course been banned by at least one school district in Florida.
