What a treat to read this novel written in verse. The reader feels like they are inside Beatrice’s head as she has to leave her summer freedom for middle school. We join Beatrice as she navigates childhood and growing pains.

Hagan does a seamless job of weaving in middle grade worries of friendship and changes with family life. That’s three generations of women in a small space with lots of love and challenges.

I have to add a shout out to Bloomsbury Books for Children. They have a real knack for finding authors who write positive stories that balance adventure, thoughtfulness, and diverse experiences.
