I read a lot of Middle Grade novels and enjoy them, but this story is a stand-out. Maddy Ariana knows magic is real, even if other people can’t see it. In the tradition of the orphaned child, she feels alone and abandoned… but the story doesn't dwell on that, except to say life is full of choices.
Maddy quickly finds herself in the magical world within the real world of Venice, California, and the magical circus is in trouble. This wonderfully imaginative world is full of quirky characters and adventures.
Along the way Maddy learns you have to listen to your own heart to grow, and to love something or someone, means you have to take the good with the bad.
You won’t want to miss this story and you really want to meet Ophelia the Octopus. No spoilers here, but you'll never see street art the same way again.
Grades 3 - 7
