It’s always a treat when an author creates an inventive story that fills the reader with wonder and includes genuine history as well. Sam Subity has pulled it off with Valor Wings. History – WW11, Dunkirk evacuation. Adventure – three families dealing with and rising above the horrors of war. Imagination – Dragons!
Readers young and old will be wrapped up in this tale of bravery, self-sacrifice, heartache, all of which sounds heavy, but there is plenty of cleverness and joy. The reader is led from a fishing village in England, to a northern cave, to the battle raging in France. What I loved most was the depiction of the families involved. A strong adventure with steadfast young protagonists, brings Wings of Valor to life. Subity unites friends, family, a village, and a country, not to mention dragons and humans. This is not a ‘message’ book. But like any well-written, meaningful tale, it leaves the reader satisfied and reflective. Highly recommended!
