Looking for a beautifully illustrated children’s winter classic? This selection by Berta and Elmer Hader is a winner. The Haders were prolific artists, illustrators, and authors of children’s books; as well as conservationists.

The Big Snow is all about the local animals near the home they built on the Hudson River. It’s a lovely read and a great book to cozy up with on a chilly day.

Some years ago, a new owner of the house found a room that had been sealed off for decades. It was an office and contained many of the couple’s original paintings. What a treasure.
