This classic Caldecott Honor picture book is for all ages. Within the main story of three children meeting a new neighbor, Stillwater, a giant panda—are three short Zen stories that relate to the needs of the children. The short stories are beautiful life lessons that are easy for children and adults to call to mind when they’re having difficult feelings. Whether it’s learning to let go of bad feelings, learning that in reality it’s hard to tell good luck from bad luck, or simply learning to share what you have, there’s something in Zen Shorts for everyone.

Muth’s watercolor illustrations are picture book art at its finest. If you don’t know this book, be sure to get it or check it out of your local library. It makes a great gift for adults as well. We can all use a little of Stillwater’s advice in our lives.
